Go for the theater at the Stratford Festival and stay to bicycle.
Every year from May to early November Stratford attracts visitors from
Canada, the United States and around the world to the Stratford Festival
for theater on four stages. The gardens, lakeside parks, restaurants
and downtown shopping area make this an attractive place to stay a while
and enjoy bicycling on tree lined country roads through scenic farmland.
Bicycle 25 kilometers to visit St. Marys with a wonderful main street
of Victorian stone buildings, Canada's largest outdoor swimming pool
in an old quarry, the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and
a scenic riverside promenade.
There are a number of bicycling options in this area including a 60
kilometer ride which takes you to London and Fanshawe Park Conservation
Area where you can camp, swim and visit the pioneer village. Continue
into London to enjoy the outdoor festivals in the downtown area amid
the Thames River parks and tree lined streets.
A package route guide is available for a 5 day “Theatre to Theatre Ride” with
a 100 kilometer average distance per day between the Shaw Festival in
Niagara on the Lake and the Shakespearian Festival in Stratford. Included are
turn-by-turn directions, accommodation suggestions, restaurants and attractions.
Start at Stratford or Niagara on the Lake. You bike through Six Nations First
Nation, along the Grand River through Brantford, then northwest to Stratford.
From Stratford you ride to Lake Erie through Port Dover along the Niagara
