Biographical Information
“Bike On Tours” began from an interest in bicycle touring and experience in touring in the United States, France, Portugal, Spain and throughout Southern Ontario. The widely recognized Ontario bicycle touring web site www.BikeOnTours.on.ca first appeared in 1996. Twenty-three route guides for loop routes throughout Southern Ontario and for bicycling across Ontario from Manitoba and US border crossings to Quebec were self-published. Custom routes have also been provided for clients from as far away as the Netherlands, Texas and the Eastern Seaboard of the United States.
In 2008 all of these routes were combined for the first time in the new Ontario Bicycle Touring Atlas published by DunMap. Hundreds of copies have been sold and it is widely available on the internet including online retailers Amazon.com, E Bay, Barnes & Noble as well as through select retail stores. A detailed community index provides useful information on towns, bicycle repair shops, libraries for internet access and a selection of the most convenient and best restaurants, bed and breakfasts, inns, motels and camping. The listings include information on attractions such as wineries, theatre, festivals, beaches, natural areas, historic sites, Mennonite and Native Canadian communities. The Cycle Ontario Alliance – Ontario Bicycling Route is included with consent.
Bike On Tours provides free listings in the community index for accommodation providers, tourist information offices and other related service providers. Paid advertising is available on the web site through Google Ads and an Accommodation Partner program.
An improved second edition of the Atlas is in production for release in early 2009. New and improved bicycle routes have been added to over thirty map pages and over fifty new places have been included in the community index.
